Spooktacular Decorations

With September coming to a close, it's time to start enjoying the fall which means hoodies, boots, hot cocoa, and HALLOWEEN!

And in the Halloween spirit, we decided to scrounge around Pinterest to get some great Halloween decorating ideas that we would like to share with our great readers.

Being huge fans of black and gold, we absolutely love the idea of this painted pumpkin with a gold glitter stem...
Found on Nest of Posies blog.
All you need for this project is 4 items:

Instructions:
  1. Spray paint the pumpkin black and let dry.
  2. Brush mod podge on stem.
  3. Immediately sprinkle with glitter.

This is such an easy diy project that makes a classy Halloween decoration that could be used throughout the fall, including Thanksgiving.  We think it would make a great centerpiece!

You could of course substitute orange glitter for the gold and have a more traditional Halloween decoration.

For our next spooktacular tutorial, we're going to make some scary eyes that you can hide in shrubs lining your porch or walkway.  This project is very inexpensive as it uses recycled toilet paper rolls!
Found on Rust and Sunshine Blog.
All you need for these creepy eyes are 5 items:
  • Toilet Paper Rolls (may substitute with cut paper towel rolls or wrapping paper tubes)
  • A pen or marker
  • Box cutter knife
  • Glow sticks
  • Duct tape

Instructions:
  1. Draw spooky eyes onto your toilet paper rolls (the kids can help with this!).
  2. Using a box cutter knife, cut out what would be the whites of the eyes.
  3. Insert a glow stick into each roll.
  4. Use duct tape to seal the ends.

These spooky eyes can be placed in bushes, shrubs, and trees surrounding your home on Halloween night.  They are sure to delight all the trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood!

The next tutorial that we found is a bit more complicated but we just love this adorable mesh ribbon ghost!
Found on craftsncoffee blog.
You will need the following items:
  • Two 4in foam balls
  • Wood dowel, 3/8in x 18in
  • Clay pot, 5in diameter
  • 10in wide white deco mesh
  • 20 gauge wire
  • Two 40mm Goggly Eyes
  • Two white chenille stems
  • 3mm white Foamie sheet
  • Sheet moss, small amount
  • Small piece of cardboard
  • Black acrylic craft paint
  • Gray acrylic craft paint
  • Black marker
  • Old newspaper
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Serrated knife
  • Wire Cutters

Instructions:
  1. Paint the wood dowel black and allow to dry.
  2. Insert dried wood dowel into 4in ball to make a hole.  Remove the dowel and add glue to the hole.  Then reinsert the dowel and allow to dry.
  3. Push the second foam ball down into the pot, trimming if necessary with a serrated knife, and glue into place.  Repeat step 2.
  4. Cut the white deco mesh into 7in wide strips.  You will need about 36 strips for the ghost.
  5. Cut the wire into 36 3in lenths.
  6. Roll a strip of mesh into a tube shape.  Fold in half and pinch at the center making a "V" shape.  Secure with a wire, twisting to hold the tube tight.  Repeat for all 36 strips of deco mesh.
  7. Insert the wire ends into the foam ball.  Repeat until the ball is covered.
  8. For the end of a chenille stem into a flat loop small enough to fit on the back of a googly eye.  Glue a googly eye onto the loop and insert the chenille stem into the foam ball.  Repeat with the 2nd chenille stem and googly eye.
  9. Cut two arms out of the white foamie sheet.  Insert them in between the mesh tubes and spot glue into place.
  10. Crumple newspaper and use it to fill the pot to the top.  Then hot glue the sheet moss over the newspaper.
  11. Cuat a 2 1/2in x 3 1/2in tombstone from the cardboard.  Paint the tombstone gray and allow to dry. Add R.I.P. to tombstone in marker.  Nestle the tombstone into the moss and glue into place.

Our last tutorial is perhaps the easiest and certainly one of the cutest projects:  A hanging lantern mummy head.
Found on karaspartyideas.

All you'll need are 4 items:

Instructions:

  1. Assemble the paper lantern according to package instructions.
  2. Glue one end of your white crepe paper streamer to the lantern and start wrapping the crepe paper around the lantern, securing with a dot of hot glue when needed.
  3. Continue wrapping your lantern in crepe paper going in different directions to create the mummy look.
  4. Once the lantern is covered, hot glue the two googly eyes to the front center of the lantern.
  5. Use two 10in strips of white crepe paper to partially cover the tops and bottoms of the mummy's eyes.
  6. Attach a string to the top hook of the lantern for hanging.

We think this adorable mummy would be perfect for decorating classrooms or dressing up a Halloween party table!
