New Orleans Mardi Gras 2014: Come Rain or Shine

Mardi Gras was a tremendous success! Even with some gloomy weather and drizzling rain, New Orleans showed the world that it could hold amazing parades and celebrations in rain or shine. From the brass bands and the parade performers to the visitors who came all the way from out of town, everyone chose to keep in the spirit of Mardi Gras by donning feather boas and Venetian masks even as temperatures dipped into 40 degrees Fahrenheit. One of the costumed visitors claimed that Mardi Gras was the only time of year that he was allowed to have fun and dress in crazy outfits—he was dressing up no matter what the weather!
It was extremely touching to see that everyone had come out in support of New Orleans, even with the dismal weather. As a result of the dark and downcast weather, we found that flashing light up beads helped people find their way around town. Besides just being the most eye-catching beads out on the town, light up beads help people find one another as well as navigate the streets of New Orleans when night falls, or when the weather is just darn depressing!
Another Mardi Gras dress-up favorite that had a surprising benefit in the dismal weather was hats and wigs. With stunning headwear that looks like it could have come from the world’s finest milliner, party-goers who donned hats and headwear found themselves in luck as the rain continued to fall down in the busy New Orleans streets.

Mardi Gras fans, what were your favorite memories of Mardi Gras 2014?
