Decorate Your Party the Right Way to Make Your Guests Remember

There’s no doubt about it – everyone loves a good party. Along with the right guest list and the right music, the best way to lift a party is to decorate in a way that draws your guests in and draws their eye.

At eMardiGrasBeads.com, we offer a wide variety of party decorating supplies – from novelty lights to centerpieces, table skirts to drinkware that brightens any party (including plastic light up pint glasses and plastic flashing shot glasses).

Decorating for a party is easy when you have a theme – say Mardi Gras, for example- or if you have a color scheme in mind. It’s usually best to start with a theme, because that can help you choose your colors and especially your décor options.

Whether your party is indoors or out – nothing says ‘this is the place to be’ like a string of lights. At eMardiGrasBeads.com, we have a wide variety of lights to brighten your party – Tiki torches bring a touch of the islands to any party, while paper lanterns bring a little Asian flair.

If you want your guests to remember your party for more than just the company, or, if you’d like them to have a little memento to remember the night, consider wearables, like light up Mardi Gras necklaces , birthday sashes or even wigs. For many people, an important component of an unforgettable party is a well stocked bar, with unique drink options and glassware. This is where the light up shot glasses or light up pint glasses can come into play – you can easily stock your bar and let your guests take these unique beverage containers home – you’ll have less to wash and clean up later too if you choose that option.

Spooktacular Decorations

With September coming to a close, it's time to start enjoying the fall which means hoodies, boots, hot cocoa, and HALLOWEEN!

And in the Halloween spirit, we decided to scrounge around Pinterest to get some great Halloween decorating ideas that we would like to share with our great readers.

Being huge fans of black and gold, we absolutely love the idea of this painted pumpkin with a gold glitter stem...
Found on Nest of Posies blog.
All you need for this project is 4 items:

Instructions:
  1. Spray paint the pumpkin black and let dry.
  2. Brush mod podge on stem.
  3. Immediately sprinkle with glitter.

This is such an easy diy project that makes a classy Halloween decoration that could be used throughout the fall, including Thanksgiving.  We think it would make a great centerpiece!

You could of course substitute orange glitter for the gold and have a more traditional Halloween decoration.

For our next spooktacular tutorial, we're going to make some scary eyes that you can hide in shrubs lining your porch or walkway.  This project is very inexpensive as it uses recycled toilet paper rolls!
Found on Rust and Sunshine Blog.
All you need for these creepy eyes are 5 items:
  • Toilet Paper Rolls (may substitute with cut paper towel rolls or wrapping paper tubes)
  • A pen or marker
  • Box cutter knife
  • Glow sticks
  • Duct tape

Instructions:
  1. Draw spooky eyes onto your toilet paper rolls (the kids can help with this!).
  2. Using a box cutter knife, cut out what would be the whites of the eyes.
  3. Insert a glow stick into each roll.
  4. Use duct tape to seal the ends.

These spooky eyes can be placed in bushes, shrubs, and trees surrounding your home on Halloween night.  They are sure to delight all the trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood!

The next tutorial that we found is a bit more complicated but we just love this adorable mesh ribbon ghost!
Found on craftsncoffee blog.
You will need the following items:
  • Two 4in foam balls
  • Wood dowel, 3/8in x 18in
  • Clay pot, 5in diameter
  • 10in wide white deco mesh
  • 20 gauge wire
  • Two 40mm Goggly Eyes
  • Two white chenille stems
  • 3mm white Foamie sheet
  • Sheet moss, small amount
  • Small piece of cardboard
  • Black acrylic craft paint
  • Gray acrylic craft paint
  • Black marker
  • Old newspaper
  • Glue gun
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Serrated knife
  • Wire Cutters

Instructions:
  1. Paint the wood dowel black and allow to dry.
  2. Insert dried wood dowel into 4in ball to make a hole.  Remove the dowel and add glue to the hole.  Then reinsert the dowel and allow to dry.
  3. Push the second foam ball down into the pot, trimming if necessary with a serrated knife, and glue into place.  Repeat step 2.
  4. Cut the white deco mesh into 7in wide strips.  You will need about 36 strips for the ghost.
  5. Cut the wire into 36 3in lenths.
  6. Roll a strip of mesh into a tube shape.  Fold in half and pinch at the center making a "V" shape.  Secure with a wire, twisting to hold the tube tight.  Repeat for all 36 strips of deco mesh.
  7. Insert the wire ends into the foam ball.  Repeat until the ball is covered.
  8. For the end of a chenille stem into a flat loop small enough to fit on the back of a googly eye.  Glue a googly eye onto the loop and insert the chenille stem into the foam ball.  Repeat with the 2nd chenille stem and googly eye.
  9. Cut two arms out of the white foamie sheet.  Insert them in between the mesh tubes and spot glue into place.
  10. Crumple newspaper and use it to fill the pot to the top.  Then hot glue the sheet moss over the newspaper.
  11. Cuat a 2 1/2in x 3 1/2in tombstone from the cardboard.  Paint the tombstone gray and allow to dry. Add R.I.P. to tombstone in marker.  Nestle the tombstone into the moss and glue into place.

Our last tutorial is perhaps the easiest and certainly one of the cutest projects:  A hanging lantern mummy head.
Found on karaspartyideas.

All you'll need are 4 items:

Instructions:

  1. Assemble the paper lantern according to package instructions.
  2. Glue one end of your white crepe paper streamer to the lantern and start wrapping the crepe paper around the lantern, securing with a dot of hot glue when needed.
  3. Continue wrapping your lantern in crepe paper going in different directions to create the mummy look.
  4. Once the lantern is covered, hot glue the two googly eyes to the front center of the lantern.
  5. Use two 10in strips of white crepe paper to partially cover the tops and bottoms of the mummy's eyes.
  6. Attach a string to the top hook of the lantern for hanging.

We think this adorable mummy would be perfect for decorating classrooms or dressing up a Halloween party table!

Labor Day:  a day to celebrate all of the hard workers across the US for their contributions to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.

Held on September 1st and marked by parades and fireworks in some cities, Labor Day, has come to be a symbolic end of summer.  A way to go out with a bang!

And by marking the end of summer, it also marks the beginning of the NFL and college football seasons.  But before we begin tailgating, let’s celebrate this Labor Day by propping our feet up and enjoying the last warm evenings of the season.  We deserve it!  We’ve worked hard this year!

Masquerade Masks: Styles Explained

Masquerade masksVenetian masks and masquerades go back many hundreds of years. If you’re just learning about or indulging in the unique beauty of masquerade masks and want to start your own collection, there are a few different types of masks that you should know about, and at eMardiGrasBeads.com, we want to help you understand the differences.
Mask Types:
  • Masquerade mask on a stick: Formerly used in casual occasions where partygoers did not need to hide their identities, these masquerade masks are typically used now as decorations or souveniers. When these were in wide use, partygoers could easily remove them, although consuming food and drink or dancing with these masks were often difficult tasks.
  • Head mask: The head masks resemble helmets and cover the wearer’s entire head. Many say that these were difficult to open and inflexible; wearers had problems eating and drinking.
  • Full-face mask: Commonly called the Bauta, these masks covered the wearer’s entire face and were designed to be worn by men. These are often designed with a square chin, no mouth and are black, white or metallic. Another type of full-face mask is the Arlecchino, although this jester-like character’s mask may also be in the mask on a stick style.
  • Half-face mask: Many consider the Volto to be a full-face mask, but in many depictions, it’s designed to cover just the eyes and nose, to hide the identity of the wearer. Other popular half-face masks include the Pantalone, which is distinctive with its beak-like nose and slanted eyes, the Zanni, which features bulging eyebrows, an extremely long nose and a low forehead.  Another well-known half-faced mask is the Scaramuccia or Scaramouche, a black velvet mask with an extremely thin, long and pointed nose.

If this blog post has piqued your interest and you’re in the market for a Venetian mask or two, at eMardiGrasBeads, we can help you out. Browse our mask selection today and see if something catches your eye!

Bring Mardi Gras into Your Home Year-Round

Mardi Gras 2015 may not be until February 17, but if you’ve got the room and the inspiration, it’s never too early to start gathering supplies. In fact, you can throw your own Mardi Gras party or bring a bit of the Big Easy’s big party to your home anytime you need a pick-me-up. Various Mardi Gras party supplies are available in bulk quantities from craft stores and online retailers, and depending on what you pick up, they store easily and don’t take up a lot of room.

Using Mardi Gras Beads and Décor in the Home

The brightly colored Mardi Gras beads bulk  are a great way to liven up the décor in your home – drape them over a neutral-colored lampshade or string them along the walls. You can even create an art display using party supplies – like venetian masks, beads and even magnets.
If you have friends or family who enjoy the annual event, why not use Mardi Gras party supplies to create a brightly colored reminder for them?  Memory jars are easy to create and items like metallic beads and jester-faced pins and dolls are easy to slip inside. You might even find a masquerade mask that you can fit into a care package.

Preparing for an Off-Season Mardi Gras Party

Mardi Gras is the last big party before Lent, and it’s a big party with beads, masks, parades and lots of loud music. You can bring that energy into your home any time of the year by throwing your own party.  It only takes a few steps and items. You’ll need to purchase a variety of Mardi Gras party supplies – like Venetian masks with or without feathers, candles, plastic cake babies and other small trinkets.  Gather up your favorite jazz or Zydeco CDs or MP3s and cook up traditional Cajun food.  If you set it up properly, all you need is your guests and you’re ready to party!
